First Craft Festival for The Old White Cottage Creations

I once had an online shop and really enjoyed making and selling things for a while.  Well, then life happened and I decided to take a short (um, 4 year) break from the shop and also from this blog for the most part.  I was busy raising girls, performing and running races and really didn't have the time anymore, but I always felt like I couldn't just let it go.  So, I never closed the shop and maybe once a year, I would blog always hoping to come back.

Then, this past winter, I found myself retired from dance, done with marathons and home with girls who were now a little more independent during lots of snow days.  What to do?  I pulled out all the things I had from my former life and remembered how much I loved it.  I opened the online shop but also remembered how I hoped to one day do a craft festival.  I made item after item and finally, just went for it and signed up for a festival - one that was low-key and not in an area as busy as where I live just to make it low-stress.

The weekend was crazy!  I drove in rush hour several hours with my girls the night before and was up early to set up only to discover that I'd made the mistake I'd dreaded the most and forgotten the most important thing - the TENT.  I had a moment of panic and then made decisions - I called my husband who had planned to drive over later and told him he had to come NOW.  He was hours way but I prayed he would make it.  In the meantime, I set everything else up and along with my dad, we planned to somehow get the tent up and pick it up over everything.  Would you believe it worked??

Here is the final result of all the snow days and the late nights that followed.

I'm so very happy with how everything turned out.  It all came together exactly how I saw it in my head and it's all very "me".

The vanity tray in the middle was given to me by my grandmother and it made me happy to be able to use it.  I also did not do this alone.  My father and husband helped me build the shelves and displays and helped with set-up.  My mom was there for advice.  We call her the "supervisor" but her input was helpful when I needed opinions (and when I didn't).  I'm so grateful for all their support.

It was not a terribly successful day for sales since it was probably not my target market and while the festival was super busy, the only thing people seemed to be buying was food.  Still, I enjoyed it and was glad for the experience.

I'm already looking into a couple more festivals that might be a better fit and looking forward to the new adventure ahead.

Featured on Etsy!

What a surprise this morning to see that one of my items has been featured in a Treasury on Etsy!

Etsy has been so good to me and its been a while since I've added new items but I do plan to do that at some point.  Who knew that when I listed items that they'd sell faster than I'd have time to make them?  No complaints!

Feautured on Etsy!

Hooray! I got a message that I was featured in a Treasury on Etsy for this ornament ...

I've actually been on the front page twice (still can't believe that) but this is my first time being in a Treasury. Its nice to be recognized by a fellow Etsyan. Maybe now I'll make one of these ornaments for myself to hang on my armoir for Valentine's Day!

Happy Black Friday!

Its just after 9PM and I'll be leaving to go midnight outlet shopping in a few hours. I've also been online today researching the purchase of a camera that I worked so hard for a few months ago. Its tricky trying to figure out when to buy and if I should wait for a better deal.

Speaking of deals ...

To kick off the start of the holiday shopping season, I'll be offering free shipping on all items in The Old White Cottage Shop through Monday.

Enjoy the big holiday shopping weekend!

Great Minds

So, I got a Ballard Designs catalog in the mail today and I was flipping through it. First, I stopped at this image of Owl Prints.

I thought it was funny how similar they are to the Snowy Owl pillow cover I listed on my Etsy shop.

Kept flipping ... Saw this!

Now those are nearly identical to my Vintage Bird print pillow cover.

Its funny how often people come up with the same ideas at the same time.

Oh, about my Insomnia post from yesterday ... A few of you commented that you were going to try lavender to help you sleep. I'd love to hear if it works for you or if I'm just crazy!

New Items ...

Items I added to my shop last week.

I don't want this to become an advertising blog because I'm really not a fan of that myself. However, this is a journal for me to post what I'm working on and sometimes that's going to be items like these so I've decided that I won't post more than once a week.

Giveaway Winner and a New Venture ...

Congratulations to lucky number 36 -C from Project Pretty (chosen by Random.org)! The frame is packed up and ready to go to its new home. I just need your address.
I wanted to send a big Thank You to everyone who entered and everyone who reads this blog. To the followers thank you for helping me reach 200! I remember being ecstatic having 10 followers. Being over 200 was unfathomable! Thanks so much.

On to the new "project" ... I've had an etsy shop for a while, but I haven't had time to do much with it. I let the listings I had expire for the summer so that I could focus on other things. The cold weather will be here before we know it which means painting outside will be coming to an end for me. I won't give up decorating (that's impossible) but this is something I'll be able to do for the winter. I have listed a few things and tweaked it a little and plan to keep adding. The main reason I decided to work on this is because early this year I started thinking about doing a local craft show for next year. This is where I'm starting.

You've seen my button frames and here are a couple on Etsy. The white version I love ...

... and this is a black and white version.

Remember my tray? Here's one I listed in Etsy:

I've also made these flower pins from vintage items ...

... and I've been working on jewelry. I haven't listed much jewelry yet, but I will be adding more new items soon. I love this ring and wear one of them all the time.

I'm hoping that by working on this for the next year, I'll have some luck applying for the craft show next summer.
