My French Desk is Here!

My parents came to pick me up for the drive to a funeral in NY over the weekend and they took that opportunity to drop off my desk! Here's it is in its new home along with my French lamp. The arm rests on my thrift store chair don't fit under the desk unfortunately. Luckily, there's plenty of room for it to stick out.

I love the detail and two different colors of wood which match the other furniture in my living room.

I need to figure out what I'm going to do with the top. Someone suggested in my previous post that this may have once been a leather top. That's pretty expensive to replace, but I'm also finding that my other idea - inserting a stained piece of wood veneer - is also expensive. We'll see what I end up doing here.

The console that was previously behind the sofa is now on another wall.

  1. Love the desk..could you deco either old french letters or post cards to the top and then top with a piece of glass? Or put some family pics in sepia or black & white under glass?

  2. Just an idea, but if you are looking for something inexpensive, this poster type idea might work. I have attached to FunkyJunkInteriors friends' office, check out the desk top. You could get favourite scrapbook paper or poster and maybe put a poly finish on it. Here is the link to the post: http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/2009/04/spotlight-on-amazingly-unique-office.html Hopefully it will work for you.

  3. I love that you used it behind your couch, instead of against a wall.

  5. Love the desk, it is just gorgeous. They do make some real looking naugahyde now that could be just perfect on the top. You might look at some, I think you'll be surprised at how real they look. Hugs, Marty

  6. It looks great. I like the poster idea that Elizabeth suggested, if you can find just the right one.

Another source for leather or another type of top might be Vandykes.com
