Shelves for the Little Ones

The other day, Roeshel from the DIY Showoff who was featuring Fawn from Frugal Home Design. Fawn the brilliant idea of not only using magazine shelves as bookshelves for her little ones, but she reconstructed the ones she'd seen at Ikea for a fraction of the price. I have enough projects on my plate so I chose to buy them instead since I had to pick up a few other things at Ikea. I installed them in one of my girls rooms.

Aren't these great? My girls are absolutely in love with them. I wish I could share how much they like this but both of them are currently sound asleep. I will install these in my little one's room next year when we convert her crib to a bed and rearrange her room. What I love most about these is that they provide a storage solution without being yet another piece of furniture. With all the other stuff my girls have, space is pretty limited.

Now that the books are no longer on the desk, there's a lot more space there.

In just over a year, my older girl will be in kindergarten. How did that happen? I could swear she looked just like that newborn in the picture yesterday. Anyway, she might actually use this desk soon so its nice that its useable now.

Thanks for the idea Fawn!

What a beautiful room! The wall color is great. I have some similar shelves to put up in my daughter's room, and I think I'll use them for books. Such a great idea!
