A Wonderful Wednesday ...

I've been looking for reasonably priced fiberglass urns for a while now. Despite the fact that I live in a busy metropolitan area, it seems like the stores near me have the worst selection. After dropping off my oldest at preschool today, I decided to take a drive with my little one. I finally found my urns!

As you can see, I also got some pumpkins and ornamental cabbages while we were out. Everyone (myself included) seems to be all about the white pumpkin lately, but after I got the urn, I thought, "Why not black?" Since I was at Wal-mart buying the pumpkins, I decided to pick up black spray paint and was thrilled to find that they sell a brand that is only $1! I love my Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2x which Wal-mart doesn't carry but for pumpkins, you can't beat $1. I also got some spanish moss to break up the black. I wasn't super careful about covering the bottom. I kinda like that you can see a little of the orange on the bottom. I didn't tape off the stem either. No biggie.

Since the pumpkins only used one can of paint, I used the other can to spray the plastic containers that the cabbages are in. I normally wouldn't do this since I'm sure the paint won't really stick, but the cabbages will eventually go in the ground and I won't be needing the plastic containers.

Above is a what we have by our side door. More traditional pumpkins. I hadn't intended to do any pumpkins at all outside because the neighborhood kids tend to steal them, but these are right by our doors so I'm praying the kids won't be so bold to come so close to the house this year.

  5. Would you share where your found your urns??? I too have been looking for inexpensive, but nice-looking urns for my front porch since we moved in 2006 - I didn't know how hard it was going to be to find something that is both attractive and affordable! I love your sense of style!

  6. I found the urns at Lowes. They weren't exactly cheap ($35 each). However, I went everywhere else, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, even Tuesday Morning and the ones I found at the beginning of the season were in the $50 range and I didn't care for the styles. Since then, I couldn't find any. I don't have a Lowes near me so I'm pretty happy with my find.
