A Gift for the Gardener

Next week I will be starting a new course of study. My first Horticulture class. So it seems appropriate that I would get this nifty gifts ...

Mr. T asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I replied that it would be nice to have some really good gardening tools to replace my used, and abused ones. After a little investigation, we found that Friskars had quite a few great things including this little caddy that straps on to a bucket. I'm always walking around clipping this and that ... but then have no place to put what I've clipped and I hate dragging around an awkward lawn bag. I also always lose the pruners in the grass, a pile of leaves, etc. so now I can put them back in their spot.

Most of the 19" of snow we have melted in a rain storm on Christmas Day but we still have some remants. I never did get around to cutting back those mums from fall. Yeah, its December, but I wasn't going to let that stop me!

I went to work on the unruly masses with those fun new pruners ...

... and things look a bit better now. Things are way too crowded here so I'll likely be moving that lavender ...

... to where these cabbages currently reside. This was a project we did in late fall. I love these ornamental cabbages. These cabbages were covered by about 2 feet of snow drifts a week ago, but now they look no worse for the wear. They give color all winter when everything but evergreens looks dull and dreary.

But that transplant will certainly have to wait for spring!

  3. Hi there,
What a neat set of tools. I am past president of our local garden club which has been in existence since 1931. I'm sure that you will enjoy your new tools. The snow that we got over the weekend covered up the last of my greenery. But, spring is just around the corner. I just started blogging 3 weeks ago and would love for you to visit my new blog. I love decorating homes, flowers, and have many other interests. My blog is full of pictures of my home and a few of my adored adopted furry babies.

I enjoyed your blog very much!
    Sincerely,
    Andrea
