Amish cradle ...

I posted a while back that a neighbor had stopped by one day almost a year ago and given me an Amish doll cradle. She was doing some cleaning up and thought of my daughters when she found the cradle. The Wild One loved the cradle but more to drag all over the house like a baby bobsled. Eventually, we put the cradle in her room so she wouldn't scratch our hardwood floors with it. The cradle was a dark walnut color. Very severe looking. I had always planned to paint it and never got around to it. A few weeks ago I painted it, eventually added the fleur de lis embellishments, distressed it and left it on the landing of my stairs so I wouldn't forget about it. After stepping over it every day for a few weeks, I finally finished it by making the pad for the inside. I so wish I had gotten a "before" picture, but I forgot. Here is the finished product!

My Happy Girl just loves it ...

I made the bumper for the inside out of receiving blankets that I wrapped my newborns in and I no longer use for my growing girls. I'm a little nostalgic and feel sad when I donate baby things so this was a nice way to hang on to some memories with things that would have otherwise been donated or thrown away. I really love how it turned out. I think its nice enough to be an heirloom I can pass to my daughters for their daughters.

  3. This turned out so beautiful! Now if only your little wild one will put dollies and bears in it, instead of sledding....
