Remember these lamps from my recently painted white bedroom?
I loved the lamp - the shape, the color, the size. I liked the shade too, but the print on it, although nice, wasn't what I was looking for. I really wanted a white or subtle off-white shade but the two pieces came together so it wasn't an option. I bought the lamp anyway.
After seeing a couple of blogs talk about painting fabric last week, I thought of the shades. After a couple of a couple of coats of primer and a few coats of spray paint, here they are now.
They're a little shiny so I have to do one more coat in a matte sheen with a creamier color, but I like them much more now that they blend in. Now when I considered doing this, I wondered if the pattern was going to show when I turned the light on. Did I care? I decided that I would be happier with the pattern coming through rather than the boldness of the shade as it was. Out came the paint and I went for it.
When I turned the light on, here is how it looked. You CAN see the print but I kinda like it!
Just a hint of a shadow. Its a little surprise since its not at all visible with the light off.
Mr. T thinks the effect is pretty neat too. ;-)
It looks great with the pattern peeking out - good for you!
ReplyDeleteGoodmorning, Melanie!
ReplyDeleteAfter I saw your posting about the soap glass bottle, I went to the Goodwill store yesterday after work to find a glass bottle. :D well, instead of finding a nice glass bottle for my dish soap, I found two very nice hobnail milk glass vases. THANK YOU, MELANIE!!! :D
I just had a quick glimpse of part of your profile as I came over here to visit you - it says "You have no particular talent" Whatttt??? of course you do, for a start look how you've transformed the lamp!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to coming back for more peeks at your creations
