Le French Desk!

Here's the French desk I purchased a few weeks ago in Delaware.

Its currently residing in my parents garage with a bunch of junk, but if you look beyond that, isn't it pretty??

It seems like there was something in this inset area on the top.

I'm going to see if I can find a wood veneer that I can attach and stain to match the darker wood on the front. I'm going to move the console in my dining room and put it behind my couch along with my thrift store chair. I didn't need this desk, but just couldn't pass it up. I loved the elegant look and the colors of the wood are perfect for my living room. If you look at the picture on the left on my blog, you can see I have a big pine armoir. All the other furniture is dark wood. This desk ties it all together perfectly!

We had a great weekend in Delaware. Home tomorrow!

  1. Melanie: Your desk is beautiful! I wonder if there used to be leather inset in the top? I love it.

  2. Michele,
Oooh, you are probably right about the leather! Wow, that must have been gorgeous. Too bad it would be several times what I paid for the desk to replace it! I'll have to stick with the veneer. ;-)

  4. Melanie,

My Grandmother had a very similar desk and the inlay on the top was white marble. It was very French Provencial. Good Luck

  5. Desk is lovely, can you put a really pretty antique French fabric on the top or wallpaper and then get some glass cut to protect it?
