The laundry room in our house is a scary place. Unlike the beautiful, convenient spaces of new construction homes, our laundry room is in the basement. We're actually lucky in that we have a nicely finished basement and the laundry room is a separate dedicated space. Most of the houses we saw when househunting were much worse.
We started planning earlier this year for what we'd like. There will definitely be paint - LOTS of paint. We have some interesting closet doors that were converted to shelving (by some previous owner) at the moment. That will be replaced with a wall of cabinets. Still, we had no vision. Has anyone ever managed to make a basement laundry room a space where you WANT to go?
Alas, an article on Country Home has brought my dreams to reality.
This is what they started with. This is pretty much what we have except packed with a lot of stuff that needs organizing and donating.
Now we know it can be done. We just have to get around to doing it. With a bathroom under construction and the holidays approaching, this is going to have to wait until we originally planned - next year.
What a great laundry room. I love all the space and the extra storage. I can't wait to see yours. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful laundry room!
ReplyDeleteI've saved that picture for inspiration too :o) I only have a laundry closet, but it's in need of some stylish storage and the cuteness factor.
ReplyDeleteMy laundry room is NOT a pretty room either! I will watch with anticipation to see what you do! I am loving this one, the curtains around the wall definitely soften them up!
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda :)
check out the Thanksgiving issue of Martha Stewart magazine and see what designer Trisha Foley did to make a fantastic, functional laundry room in her basement. Love your blog, Lori
ReplyDeleteOh, to even have a laundry. Ours is just a space undercover by the back door. Not a pretty look to come home to. I've saved that picture for inspiration. I know there's got to be something I can do to pretty up my space.
ReplyDeleteWell that sure looks better than the new construction laundry room we have...yep it's off the family room, but it is ridiculously small! I'll be jealous if yours turns out that good :)
ReplyDelete:) T
Beautiful. Nobody would guess it's a basement! Although I think I would put something a little more airy over the window to use that natural light. Can't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I saved that picture too....seems like it spoke to lots of us. It just makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the finished room!
Wow you just gave me so much inspiration! Our laundry area is in the basement and it always depresses me, but this give me some hope, thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteOh wow...beautiful laundry rooms. These make me want to spend more time doing the laundry! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great makeover, I'm sure yours will be too! We are in the midst of a full basement remodel, and I am trying to create a nice laundry "nook" on top of everything else we need to fit down there. :-)
