Something I Don't Need ...

On Friday, I took a trip to Michaels for a few things and while browsing the Christmas items, I came across this giant pinecone. Did I need it? No. I was fascinated by the size of it though and it was on sale so it came home with me. Mr. T found it pretty impressive as well. We're wondering if the pinecone looks like that, how big is the tree it came from?

The nice harcover book its sitting on was posted about over on Life in the Fun Lane. I paid a whopping $5 for it - less than some magazines cost. I love buying used (but practically new) books on Amazon.

  1. Oh when I lived in Oregon, we use to find these huge ones all the time. Some as much as a foot long. Sure wish I had saved a big basket full of these. Hugs, Marty

  2. Ahh we have them that big and bigger here in NC. Of course we are the pinetree area. I posted a while back that someone stole a whole bin of these from my driveway. If you ever need more - next year let me know. We are known to ship them all over to friends.

  3. Ah, interesting! My husband wondered if it was a southern pine of some sort. They're incredible! A large quantity would be great for making wreaths.

  5. Looks like a sugar pine pinecone to me. They are abundant around here...and the trees are quite large as your husband suspected. Here's a little background info http://www.cascadecones.com/sugar.html

It looks great alongside your rustic turkey!
