Laundry Room - Phase II

More progress pictures. You've already seen the cabinets and paint we did on the back wall of our laundry room.

Here's a more expanded view. We attached the small cabinet (Lowes) to the stainless steel table top (Ikea) and added a shim under the table on the left to support it on the "booze fridge". The stadium "artwork" is going to be replaced but I haven't received the print yet. Its probably lost in the snow somewhere with other packages I'm expecting. I didn't paint the gas meter because Mr. T told me that it belongs to the gas company and freaked me out. I've convinced myself that it matches the grey in the floor.
This ...

... is still unfinished thanks to the storm which prevented me from shopping for cabinets and other supplies but at least its painted.

I'm not done with the sink and I know the window, dryer vent and radon pipe aren't so great but its better than this ...

This ...
Now looks like this ... The drying rack is open here.

And here's how the drying rack looks closed.

I need trim for the vent and one of the tiles came down over the door but I decided to keep it down so I can shop for more of them that I need for other parts of the ceiling.

I realize that the floor by the sink isn't ideal, but its so much better than this ...

I replaced 2 bare bulbs hanging from the ceiling with these simple, inexpensive fixtures. I have one more to do but its in an area that needs to be drywalled first.

Our laundry usually isn't done until Tuesday but this week, its already done! I guess progress happens when laundry is done in a room that isn't frightening.

I ventured out today and things here were pretty bad. The streets were eerily deserted. Many stores are still closed but I found one that was open so I picked up some staples and came right back home. We're also expecting another 5" on Tuesday night. This may put my project on hold indefinitely. Must. Go. Shopping!

Oh, and thank you to Kimba who featured my laundry room on A Soft Place to Land. Welcome to anyone who found me through her blog!

  1. Wow this is looking great! What a difference already! You may actually make it so beautiful that you will deliberately spill food on your clothes just so you will have to do laundry in your BEAUTIFUL NE W LAUNDRY ROOM!

Buwahahahaha....Yes we both know I'm joking. I've tried to make mine as beautiful as possible and I do like the room....but more laundry? Come on!
    Love watching your progress.
    Have a great day!

  3. That definitely has moved from scary room to lovely room. Just wondering if you had thought of a way to cover the electrical cords from the appliances? If not, then I would, personally, paint them the wall colour. I have done that before and you hardly notice the cord anymore and the paint sticks surprisingly well. Great job!!! Looking forward to the after-after photos.

  4. Grace,
I think my husband might have a stroke if I pained the cords. I was surpised he didn't mind that I painted the pipes. ;-) I do hate that cords always show around my house and mean to make covers, but never get around to it.

  6. I love watching the transformation of this room! Everything is looking clean and bright! The meter also matches the counter top so it's good. Joan @Americana By Candlelight

  9. Isn't it wonderful to have a pretty laundry room! Yours is coming along just lovely. I love the yellow wall color. I have the same white cabinet from Lowe's in my laundry room! Hubby bought the tall one and put it on wheels for me and we rolled it into the small closet (that was too small to hang anything in it). We also installed three wall cabinets too in the small design. I'll have to take photos and post them on my blog. My laundry room is extremely small so it is more functional than pretty.
We shop in Delaware all the time (love tax free shopping). We live just a few miles from the Wilmington DE border. We just got home from Walt Disney World yesterday and wow can't believe all the snow and more coming!

  15. I have an unfinished basement as well.. I wasn't really sure what to do with it at first, but I'm thinking of goin with the loft style type thing.. unfinished concrete floors get to stay, and the lighting will work great. Unfortunately, I will have to sheetrock the concrete walls...
