Vanity Table Painted

I finished painting a small vanity/desk my dad gave me years ago and a chair that belonged to Mr. T (my husband, not the guy from the 80s TV show!) when he was young.

I initially planned to paint them white, but after priming, I wasn't happy with how plain it looked. Then I thought, why white? Every other piece of furniture in the room is white. So, I pulled out the bedding my Happy Girl will have once her crib is converted to a bed - Target Shabby Chic Bedding - and looked over the colors. The room is blue. I try to avoid pink since with girls there is inevitably always pink somewhere. Ultimately, I decided to paint them a shade of green that is in the bedding. I took the leftover paint from my potting bench project and doubled the amount of white.

I changed the simple knob it had to the Anthropologie rose knob that is also on the painted dresser.

See all those little holes on the side of the tabletop? This table used to have arms that would open out when the drawer was opened. I have no idea what happened to those arms, but they're long gone. Their purpose was to move the skirt that was around the table. The holes are remnants of the tacks used to hold the skirt. I wish I still had those arms because I think this table would look great with a billowy white ruffled skirt.

Finally, here's how they looked before...

I just have to mention ... My spa day yesterday was wonderful and mom and I had a great time. I had never had a facial before and I can't wait to do that again! Not only was it relaxing, but today when I looked in the mirror after my shower, I couldn't believe how incredible my skin looked! If you have an opportunity to ever do this, go for it!

  4. What a perfect color for the table and I love the size and the rose knob--just right! I bet you could still figure out a way to skirt it, but it looks great without it. Aren't mother/daughter spa days the best?

  11. LOVE the new look of the table! I think it looks great that shade of green, and I LOVE the knob. Too cute!
You stopped by my blog and asked me about the matelasse on my bed. I have had that one for years. They last forever and are super easy to care for. I also have another one on my bed, and I am not sure exactly where I got them.
But I know it was either Home Goods, TJ Maxx, or Marshalls. I still see them at HG sometimes, but not so much at Marshalls or Maxx. They usually come with two shams and are only about 30 or 40 dollars for the set. Depends on the size. I also know that they have them at Bed, Bath and Beyond, but they are usually a little more pricey.
    Hope that helps!

  15. Looks great. I have that same table! It has a tiny little bench seat (I think it was too small when I was 10, let alone 40, but I still have it), and the arms. I didn't know the purpose of the arms until you just said it--now I want to put a skirt on it!

  16. This is my first visit to your blog...I've been looking around and enjoying it very much!
I have an almost identical table that I got for my daughter at a garage sale, and it still has the arms. In fact, it still has tacks all the way around it. I really wasn't sure what the arms were for; do you mean the skirt would be split in the front and you could swing out the arms so you could open the drawer? (I posted about my table June 3.)
Yours looks so pretty with its new paint!
