Sandi, My parents had painted risers on the stairs in their old house and there would be scuffs sometimes but they had narrower steps. Also, I get scuff marks on my risers anyway. Semi-gloss paint is washable.
I have been going back and forth with this forever! Our staircase is the original solid oak and I almost feel guilty about painting the risers, yet I know it would be so much brighter. My mom "warned" me about scuffs, but that's the beauty of always having white paint around, just touch it up if need be! Good luck, can't wait to see the finished product (hopefully it'll convince me to finally take the plunge!)
Go for it!
ReplyDeleteThe white painted stairs look great. Do you have to worry about toe marks on them? Sandi

ReplyDeleteLove the painted risers, but I would worry about constant touch ups because of scuffs. Let me know how it turns out. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThat would look awesome
ReplyDeleteI've got the same project on my list. Only, we need to refinish the top portion, as they look as old as the Hills. We're talking varnish here! lol.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I found your blog, we've got alot in common as far as our homes and our tastes are concerned. Always love finding that!
Wow thats awsome! Gotta start working on my house now!

That would look really nice. I have painted riser and you do get scuff marks but they're easy to remove.

That would look great! If you get scuffs just use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponge...it works great!
